10 The Salt Lake Tribune Monday, November 23, 1998 OBITUARIES Lemuel A. Abbott Lemuel Allen Abbott, 66, of Payson, UT, died Nov. 21, 1998, at the Veterans Medical Center. Bor December 30, 1931, in Sutherland, UT, the son of James Howard and Lillian McGilvra Abbott. He married Barbara Gene Smith December 13, 1957, in the Logan LDS Temple.

He had many occupations in his life but his favorite was working with horses. He was a member of the LDS church serving as a high priest. He served in the Navy for three years and in the U.S. Coast Guard for a year. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; children, Brian of Payson, Blain of Fairbanks, AK: Kurt of Payson, Michele of Salt Lake City, Russell of Salt Lake City, Shalayne of Payson, Biair (Alyssa) of Spanish Fork; six grandsons and two granddaughters; a brother, Dean (Pat) Abbott, Las Vegas, NV; a sister, ElDonna Edwards, Bunkerville, NV; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 24, 1998, at 12 noon in the Payson West Stake Center, 780 South 500 West. Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Holladay Hills Funeral Home, 66 South 300 East in: Santaquin, and Tuesday, one hour prior to the services at the church. Harold Evans Paul Our caring husband, father, grandpa and friend, Harold Evans Paul, passed away on Nov. 21, 1998, at age 82. Born July 13, 1916, in Salt Lake City to Cyril James Paul and Jensine Marie Hendrikson. Married May Falkner Nov. 20, 1935; marriage later solemnized in the Jordan River LDS Temple.

He served in the Army during World War II. Many knew him for repairing and giving away bicycles. He played an active part in every member of his tamily's life, especially his great-grandchildren. Survived by his sweet wife of 63 years and three children, Barbara North (Brent), Salt Lake City: Richard Paul (Kay), Sandy, and Stanley Paul (Dawna), CA; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and many other family members. Preceded in death by his son, Robert Stephen.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, 11:30 a.m. at Elysian Buriai Gardens, 1075 East 4570 South. Family and friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.

Dorothy Esmeyer Butterwood My precious mom, loving grandma, greatgrandma, sister, and aunt, Dorothy Evelyn Esmeyer Butterwood, age 76, left this world on November 20, 1998. She died at her home of carbon monoxide poisoning. She fought for so long to get well; now her pain is gone. Worked for Safeway for almost 25 years.

Dorothy was a person who loved people. There was no one in the world she wouldn't help. Even in her death she helped people. i can't tell you how much she will be missed. She was loved by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Ralph Elmer Butterwood; her dear son, Tom Butterwood; and grandson, Gary Worsfold. Survived by her daughter and son-inlaw, Tom and Catherine Butterwood Gray; granddaughter and husband, Christi and Wesley Sharp; three beautiful Austin, Caden, and Sietson Sharp, all of Biuffdale; sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Phil Seager, brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Petie Esmeyer, Napa, CA; cousin, Edith, Salt Lake City: and many, many friends. Henry and Florence Wright Volker. She attended Ogden City Schools unfill her junior year of high school when the Voiker family moved to Salt Lake City and joy became a student at East High School. She later atlended the University of Utah where she affiliated with the Pi Beta Phi of natural causes at Sorority, ultimately graduating with a degree in education. She became an eiementary school teacher and during her 25 vear career, significantly Influenced the lives of thousands of young students at Franklin and Newman Elementary Schools in the Salt Lake City District. Upon retiring from teaching, she became a long-time volunteer with the Adoption and Clerical Department of LDS Social Services, in addition to many other volunteer activities.

Joy was a devoted discipie of Jesus Christ and a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and served in many capacities durIng her productive life. Above all, she was a very loving and devoted mother and grondmother. On October 1942, she married Duane Taylor Cardall in the Salt Lake Temple, They later divorced. She is survived by her children, Duane V. and his wife Margaret of Salt Lake City; Catherine and her husband Joel Richards Ill of Houston, Texas; James V.

and his wife Shelly of Salt Lake City, Jane and her husband Lynn Brown of Omaha, Nebraska; Ann Elizabeth (Lisa) and her husband Paul Christensen of Seattle, Washington; 28 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, H. Wright Volker and his wife Borbara of Salt Lake City; John W. Volker and his wife Delores of San Diego, California; a sister, Nancy Wilcox and her husband, Dr. C.

Frederick Wilcox of Stockton, California and a sister-in-law, Doris Volker of Salt Lake City. Elizabeth (Betty) Christensen Fisher Elizabeth (Betty) Christensen Fisher, a resident of Farmington and a writer, former newspaper editor and civic and religious figure died in a Bountiful care facility Friday, November 20, 1998. She was 79 years old. Cause of death was due to diabetic condition. Betty was born in Sait Lake City on May 9. 1919, the second child of Orsen Reuben Christensen, and Anna Felix Christensen.

She was married to Etsil Robert Fisher on April 23, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were the parents of five children, four of whom survive: Edward Farmington; Ellen (Mrs. Darryl) Trickler, Bluffdale; Colleen (Mrs. David) Newey, Richfield, Idaho; and Randall Etsil, Phoenix, Arizona. A fifth child, Garth Newell, died in infancy.

Also surviving are two brothers, Orsen Reuben and C. Ned Christensen of Layton; and two sisters, Alice C. Jensen, Bountiful, and Bernice (Bee) Bywater of Dublin, California. There are also living 17 grandchiidren and 13 greatgrandchildren. A grandson, Todd Newey, preceded his grandmother in death.

Betty attended the University of Utah, Utah State University, Weber Coliege, and LDS Business College. Her writing career began in 1951, when she was made South Davis Correspondent for the Deseret News. As a member of the Utah Press Women, she initiated "Press Patter the group's news bulletin. She was courthouse reporter for the Davis County Clipper from 1960- 1964. in 1961, Betty became assistant editor and photographer for the Weekly Refiex Newspaper in Kaysville.

In 1962, she was assistant editor for a house organ of the First Security Bank Corporation. In 1963, she became correspondent for the Salt Lake Tribune, and photojournalist for the Magna Times Newspaper. She left these two assignments to edit and write a weekly column for the Weekly Reflex before free-lancing as editor of the news bulletin and public relations officer for the Utah Association of Women. She assisted Margaret Hess in the publication of "My Farmington" and served as chair of public information of the Davis County Unit of the American Cancer Scciety. She served as publicity and promotion chair for the Davis County Fair and other civic promotions throughout her long literary and public relations careers.

Belty was a pioneer in rnany women's related organizations from charter member of the Utah Press Women and the National Federation of Press Women, in which organizations she ieceived many awards of achievement. As mother of four achievers, Betty was active in 4H, the Farmington Days Parades, and LDS Church church activities. She auxiliaries taught and or served held as offices President in ail of the Farmington First Ward Relief Society. Services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 24th, at 1 p.m.

Interment, Farmington City Cemetery. Lorenzo Giles "Ren' HEBER CITY- -Ren Giles, 1998, in Heber City, Utah. Born January 24, 1911, in Heber Citv, Utah, 1 to Albert and Hazel Lindsay Giles. He was a farmer and dairyman all his lite. Enjoyed hunting, fishing and all sports.

Loved his nieces and nephews and was like a grandfather to them. Survived by a niece, Nancy (Russell) Cummings, Heber City; nephews, Bert (Michelyn) Lawton of Heber City, David (Carol) Lawton of Oklahoma. Our mother was fun loving, outgoing, very personable, and had a recognizabie laugh. She was a committed and faithful friend.

Actively involved in New Comers and Friends Unlimited. Her favorite activities have been gardening, Bridge and most card games. The highlight of her life was to co*ck and entertain with friends and family. Survived by three children: Diane (Douglas) McNair, Linda (DeLoy) Norton, and Marty Jensen; four grandsons and one granddaughter, sisters: Irene Hoffman, Atwater, CA, Pearl Jacobi. Serof Russon Brothers Mor- 21, 1998, in Taylorsville of pneumonia. He was bom January 16, 1940, in Taylorsville, Utah, a son of Raymond Charles and Marjorie Elizabeth Malstrom Jones. He married Claudia Kay Glade August 24, 1964 in Crescent, Utah; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Garry had a great love for his family, life, animals his dog, Good His motto was The family who works together, plays together, stays He loved his grandchlidren and of all fities he has been given he loved "GRANDPA' best. He had a great love for the outdoors, warm weather, the sun, hot tub, and a good laugh.

He lived a good life as a dairyman on the family farm (Jones Dairy) and was a hard worker who rarely missed a milking. Garry was an active member of the LDS Church where he served many years in callings which included Cub Scout Master. Stammer Jean D. Stammer, age 78, passed away Nov. 21, 1998. She was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She is survived by her husband, Tom; three children, Julie Adams, Tom Stammer lil, Michelle Cornwell; and five grandchildren. Kelly on November 22, 1933, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised three sons, David Lamar Kelly (Annette). Edward Jay Kelly (Barbara) and Joseph Brent Kelly (Mary), all of Haber Valley. They made their home in Midway, Utah, on the family farm. Lona served graciously as an active member of the LDS Church in the Midway 2nd Ward.

She served as the Relief Society president, in the Mutual organization and also in the Primary. She and her husband were Michway's honored citizens in 1993. She loved her farnily and enjoyed traditions and family gatherings. They ware the light of her life. Preceded in death by a baby girl, her husband, a grandson, a great-grandson, and four sisters.

Survived by her three sons; brothers, Jay Burgener and Ted Burgener of Salt Lake City, Utah; a sister, Thelma B. Carile of Las Vegas, Nevada; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She passed away May 25. 1998. He is survived by his two daughters, Janet Yeates (Richard) and Karen Heilmann; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille Markham Motzkus Lucille Markham Motzkus, age 84, passed away November 20, 1998, in Anton, Wyoming, after losing a battle with cancer. Born June 7, 1914, in Lake Shore, Utah, to Dail Markham and Sussie Losser Markham. Married Erwin W. Motzkus on January 16, 1935, in Salt Lake City. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1991.

Member of the LDS Church. She enjoyed crafts, was a very hard worker with her husband in the jewelry and motel business. Loved her grandand great-grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting with her neighbors. Survived Dale (Betsy); four grandsons, Lyn, Russell, Allan, and James; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Buehla.

She spent most of her childhood in Sanpete County, Utah, coming to Salt Lake 1926. City with her family in She graduated from LDS High School in 1930, and began her working career that August witf Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. Married Russell J. Turner on August 5, 1939. Three sons were born to this union: Dennis Marriage later solemnized in the LDS Temple.

Newell and Lane all of Salt Lake City. Arlene retired from work in 1976, after 31 years of excellent service. An active member of the LDS Church, Arlene served in many leadership positions on both Hawthorne Ward and Sugarhouse Stake levels. Member D.U.P. She enjoyed traveling and was an artist, pianist, gardener, and avid reader.

We will miss her strong life force, and kind, gentle nature greatly. Survived by sons; sisters, Louise Johnson and Effie Newell, both of New York; Valere Summers, CA; brothers, Dr. E. Tom Jensen and Gaylen Jensen, both Salt Lake City, a large extended family and many dear friends. 10 Preceded in death by brothers Robert and Graydon, and her husband.

She was born February 14, 1916, in Primrose, Colorado, to Richard and Mary Tittle Comish.

Married Edward Edwaids April 14, 1936, In Price, Utah. In April they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Past president of Price Ladies of Elk's and past president of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Ada was presentty serving as the vice president of the Slovenian Home in Spring Glen.

She worked for Price Floral as a florist until her retirement. Her hobbies included bowling, fishing, crocheting and especially polka dancing. She will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends. Survived by husband, Ed Edwards, Price; son, Richard Edwards, Spring Glen; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents and three sisters, Mildred Toson, Helen Windsor, and Edna Private funeral services were held at Price City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
